Handgun Training In San Antonio

PRIVATE CLASSES

All classes are offered as PRIVATE, one-on-one sessions with the instructor.  However, you may schedule small group classes with family members or friends.  When scheduling your class, just note the number of students.  Each student pays for their class and a student is defined as an adult in the classroom or on the range when instruction takes place.

The Home Defense class is offered to all members of the household who wish to attend at one price. Home defense planning and training should involve every resident and every adult in the household should consider attending the class.

FIREARMS, EYE PROTECTION, HEARING PROTECTION

Students have two options regarding the firearm used during the class:

Bring Your Own- Students can bring their own firearm.  If you bring your own firearm, you may purchase ammunition anywhere you please.  The range always appreciates your business.

Use a loaner-  The range has many firearms available for your use during the class.  When using a loaner you should plan to purchase ammunition at the range.

Eye Protection and Hearing Protection are provided at no additional cost for the duration of the class.

BASIC PISTOL

$130/student (100 cartridges)

3 to 4 Hours

Saturday & Sunday at 12:00 noon & 4:00 pm

Basic Pistol is The Deadeye Method's flagship course.

Prerequisite Skills/Materials:

NONE

The Basic Pistol class follows a three block of instruction format:

  1. Safety
  2. Responsible Firearm Ownership
  3. Marksmanship

The second block, Responsible Firearm Ownership, covers a multitude of topics which include: safe storage, range etiquette and dealing with unsafe persons, cleaning the firearm, understanding the cartridge, calibers, and models of handguns, education on recoil, guidance on choosing a handgun, loading and unloading the handgun, function, malfunctions, and correcting malfunctions.

A vast majority of students who attend the Basic Pistol class are out-shooting 70% - 90% of persons on the public 7 yard line on any given day; grouping a majority of their shots in a 3” circle.

If you are new to handgun ownership or cannot shoot a 3” grouping, or have never attended a firearm safety class  and cannot group your shots in a 3" circle, the Basic Pistol Class should be your choice.

HANDGUN MECHANICS

$130/student (150 cartridges)

2 to 3 hours

Monday - Thursday, 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Saturday & Sunday, 12:00 noon & 4:00 pm

Prerequisite Skills/Materials:

  • Knowledge of firearm safety
  • Firearm (loaner Glock 17 available)
  • Holster (loaner for Glock 17 available)
  • 3 Magazines (loaner for Glock 17 available)
  • Magazine holder (loaner for Glock 17 available)
  • Quality belt to secure holster
  • Eye Protection (loaner eye-pro available)
  • Hearing Protection (loaner hearing-pro available)

Basic Pistol & Handgun Mechanics, together, prepares you to take the Defensive Pistol or Advanced Marksmanship classes.  In Handgun Mechanics you will drill the draw, reloading, and dealing with malfunctions.  We will also train worst case scenario off-handed draws and one-handed reloads.

Handgun Mechanics is less of a shooting class than a class working the non-shooting skills; the mechanics of operating the pistol outside of marksmanship.  You will shoot, but we not spend time much time correcting marksmanship error and instead invest in learning firearm manipulations.

ADVANCED MARKSMANSHIP

$200/student (300+ cartridges)

4 hours

Saturday & Sunday, 12:00 noon & 4:00 pm

Prerequisite Skills/Materials:

  • Knowledge of firearm safety
  • Solid Fundamental marksmanship skill (10 shot, 4" group, 7 yrds, 20 sec time limit)
  • Solid Handgun Mechanics
  • Firearm (loaner Glock 17 available)
  • Holster (loaner for Glock 17 available)
  • 3 Magazines (loaner for Glock 17 available)
  • Magazine holder (loaner for Glock 17 available)
  • Quality belt to secure holster
  • Eye Protection (loaner eye-pro available)
  • Hearing Protection (loaner hearing-pro available)

Students who wish to attend the Advanced Marksmanship class should make an honest assessment of their shooting skill.  If you cannot consistently and confidently shoot a 10 shot 3” group at 7 yards in 20 seconds with no more than 20% of your shots being “flyers” which also remain within a 6” circle then you are not ready for this class.  I encourage you to dry-fire and practice a bit more or schedule a Personal Coaching class.

In Advanced Marksmanship your marksmanship is improved through introduction of stress induced by distance (25 yards), time pressure (Bill Drill), multiple targets, reactive targets (falling steel), moving targets (swinger), and finally multiple moving reactive targets (Texas Star).  The skill taught in the Basic Pistol class known as Shot Calling is improved in Advanced Marksmanship.

When the student fails under stress, the instructor identifies your error and provides correction producing a better, smarter shooter.

Based on the diagrams you provide we build portions of your home on the range!  Complete with furniture, doorways, windows, "bad-guys" and low-light!  You will not get a more realistic opportunity to practice protecting your home with live fire! The class covers the legal and practical realities of discharging a firearm inside your home and practical shooting drills.

Bring the whole family as every member of the household should be be aware of the plan.

The class also assists you in developing a solid home defense plan under tutelage from a former US Army Captain, Deputy Sheriff, and Master Class shooter.

If you are serious about defending your castle, this is the class to schedule.

The Home Defense class is not a beginner's class and requires a quality grounding in gun handling.  Students should be fully capable of loading and unloading their firearm safely, firing multiple shots accurately, correct malfunctions on their own, and reload their firearm safely.

The Basic Pistol class is recommended for new firearm owners.

There are 5 things you need know if you are going to carry a gun in public. In the Defensive Pistol class I share with you those things and use them to craft a class to better prepare you to save your life or that of a loved one and avoid negative legal entanglements.

We will delve into the reality of the Tueller Drill and Failure to Stop drills.  We will practice shooting on the move.  We will give you a chance to shoot in low light, from inside a vehicle, around a vehicle, and through a vehicle. We will also show you what cover and concealment really are, as opposed to internet blog discussions of the same.

There are lots of scenarios to fire which will drive home the lesson taught regarding the 5 things you need to know.

You are encouraged to bring your defensive pistol in it's carry configuration.  I recommend a sturdy kydex holder carried on the belt and a magazine holder for at least one magazine.  In San Antonio, consider visiting On Your 6 Designs for your holster and magazine holders.

PERSONAL COACHING

$200/student (600+ cartridges, 200+ per shooting session)

3 Sessions of 1 to 3 hours

Personal coachings are for trained persons wishing to improve their shooting or find correction.  Students who do not require the Basic Pistol class but are not yet ready for the Advanced Pistol class should consider the class to diagnosis errors and learn The Deadeye Method of marksmanship, firearm manipulation and tactics.

A Coaching is three sessions with the instructor over a month.  The first session is typically two hours long and the second and third coaching sessions are one to two hours in length.  The student receives after class observations and recommend dry-fire and practice recommendations.

Security, and law enforcement and military personal have scheduled classes for quarterly familiarization and qualification preparation, preparation for intra-service competition or to find the shooting instruction lacking from governmental training programs.

For law enforcement and military personnel, this is not a training class. This is a training program and you need to schedule this class at least one month prior to your qualification.

Competitive shooters schedule extended mentoring and coaching sessions under the Directed Shoot offering and are seeing significant improvement in match performance and promoting under the USPSA Classification system
